WELCOME

Activate MHC offers a variety of programs and events to help people enjoy a healthy lifestyle.  The Bike Barn has been open for two weeks, with great success -- over 800 unique riders in that short amount of time!  In addition, plans are in the works for a variety of new events including the Tuff Strutter 5K Trail Run in partnership with Rooster Walk, the Tour de Scholar, with a training group, set for August, a mud run to be held with Smith River Fest on August 11, and the popular Harvest Moon Run 10K set for September 14.  In addition, we will be offering a Thanksgiving Day 5K and New Year's Day Trail Run complete with a Lake Plunge!  Check back often to see how plans are developing for all of these great events and more.

THE SILVERBELL TREES ARE IN FULL BLOOM AS TRAIL PROGRESS CONTINUES!

The beautiful Silverbell trees are in full bloom along the new trail route.  The grading has been completed and work has started to craft a boardwalk midway along the trail.  It won't be long until gravel and asphalt are in place preparing the multi-purpose route for use by many.  Thank you to Sandra and Butch Stultz for the easement allowing this lovely woodland walk through the heart of Martinsville.

BIKE BARN OPENED APRIL 1, 2012

The Bike Barn officially opened for the season on Sunday April 1.  During the first two weeks since opening, Activate has welcomed 800 unique riders to the "Borrow a Bike, Bring it Back" program!  In addition, we have had many repeat riders.  New this year, we will be offering beverages, ice cream, and healthy snacks for you to enjoy as a part of your biking experience.  Also available are t-shirts and small backpacks to keep your valuables in.  Ride 15 times and cover 45 miles, and receive your very own bike helmet.

Current Hours are:

Monday through Friday:  3 to 7

Saturday:  9 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Sunday:  1 p.m. to 6 p.m.

New this year, we will be offering a training program to help you prepare for the 25 mile Tour de Scholar ride on August 4.  All proceeds from the annual bike ride, hosted by the Martinsville Henry County Chamber of Commerce are used for educational grants.  If you are interested in reserving a bike and signing up for the training program, leave your contact information with a Bike Barn attendant.
